The Kansas cyclocross season opener, Manion’s Cross, will take place this weekend, September 28th and 29th, in Kansas City, Kansas. This has become a popular event over the past few years. The course is challenging, with many elevation changes and some significant technical portions. Areas of the course open up for riders to push the pace on some fast stretches as well.

This weekend also brings the opportunity for riders to take to the trails of Shawnee Mission Park on Saturday for the Double Ogg Dare Dirty Time Trial. This is a non-competitive event in which riders can test their legs against the clock on the park’s single-track. The event consists of an 8.2-mile loop course incorporating the red, violet, and orange trail loops. This event is chip-timed.

Also at Shawnee Mission Park, The Kansas City Metro Bicycle Club will be hosting their annual Fall Picnic. Saturday, riders can take part in this potluck lunch and bike ride. The event will be held at shelter 1 in the park. Sandwiches and drinks will be provided by KCMBC. Participants are asked to bring a side or dessert. Registration is free, and everyone is welcome. The mass start leaves at 9, and the picnic runs from 11-1. Riders also have the option to ride the paved or MTB trails in the park as well.
